# Datum

> Datum is the open network cloud for AI — a neutral, programmable foundation for edge, inference, compute, and connectivity. A Kubernetes-style API, no feature gates. Available as public cloud, as Dedicated Cloud for scaled deployments, or as open source (AGPLv3). Currently free of charge to use; a valid payment method is required at signup.

General availability begins September 2026. Agents act through `datumctl` (a CLI built on the Kubernetes apiserver, also runnable as a local API proxy and an MCP server) or directly against the HTTP API at `https://api.datum.net`. The API is self-describing: `datumctl api-resources` lists every resource type and `datumctl explain <resource>` returns its schema, so an agent can learn the full surface at runtime.

- MCP: the `datumctl ai` toolset runs as an MCP server; an official self-hosted Datum MCP server integrates with Cursor.

## Core verbs (datumctl)
- `datumctl api-resources` — list every resource type.
- `datumctl explain <resource>[.<field.path>]` — schema and field docs (e.g. `datumctl explain httpproxies.spec`).
- `datumctl get | describe | diff | apply | delete` — read and manage resources. `apply` has conflict management and is safe to retry.
- `datumctl auth login --no-browser` — device-code login for SSH sessions, VMs, and containers.

Datum is currently free of charge to use. We require a valid payment method during the signup process.
